Eco-friendly Remodeling
Green buildings are in! Opting for an eco friendly remodeling for your home is one of the best choices you’ll ever make. Not only are you creating a positive impact on the environment, it’s providing a healthy and efficient home. Listed below, are some basic tips in eco friendly remodeling.
5 Tips in Eco Friendly Remodeling
G – Global
R – Recycle/ Regenerate
E – Efficiency
E – Ergonomics
N – Nature
Global. The first step in eco friendly remodeling that you can do is to think global, that is, being aware of the goals of sustainable movement and how to achieve them. A simple switch of flooring for example can make a great impact to the environment. Instead of going with industrial carpet or hefty hardwoods one can opt for bamboo, reclaimed wood or natural linoleum. Most industrial carpets or even laminated floors can leave a heavy carbon footprint in the environment. Most carpets are manufactured using petroleum and formaldehyde to glue them together which are both harsh chemicals.
Green living is a worldwide movement where a lot of building systems, materials and ideas are being developed in different parts of the globe. Technology allows homeowners to pick up simple yet effective ideas on the web from different sources.
Recycle. Recycling is not a new idea and this is one effective eco friendly remodeling option a homeowner can implement. As more people learn to recycle, more and more construction products are being made from recycled materials. Reusing materials instead of dumping them in landfills saves valuable resources; by actively looking for and buying products with recycled content, you encourage the recycling industry.
Energy Efficiency. In connection to recycling, energy efficiency is another issue which you as a homeowner should consider when having an eco friendly remodeling. The use of electricity and other HVAC systems are major concerns when it comes to home energy efficiency which is costly to operate plus leaves a huge carbon footprint to the environment. To reduce consumption and use of energy at home, you can opt to have
Major Remodeling. The most common in today’s sustainable buildings is the use of solar energy. You may go for solar panels or solar grids depending on one’s location to utilize the sun’s energy. This can be a major remodeling to your home but the benefits are endless. Solar tubes or clerestoreys can also be used for areas where natural light is unreachable. These lessen the use of electricity as well as provide healthy dosage of Vitamin D to building occupants.
Minor Remodeling. You can opt to have window blinds made of bamboo instead of heavy curtains for your windows. This can reduce the heat retention and can also provide goo air flow into the structure. Bamboo, rattan and seaweed are popular materials used for sustainable furniture. You can also find a good looking and durable eco friendly furniture that can fit either for outdoor or interior use.
Ergonomics. When talking about ergonomics this focuses on the impact of the building living environment to its occupants while sustainable buildings focuses more on the impact of the structure to the environment. Though different on their goals ergonomics and sustainability can go hand in hand. When choosing to do eco-green remodeling always consider ergonomics. A good example is on choosing furniture, though you may be having bamboo or wicker furniture for your living room, make sure that it’s comfortable to use even for long periods of time.
“Green ergonomics” was coined as a term that refers to the integration of ergonomics into sustainable design in achieving a healthy and productive environment for both the individual or occupant and the systems or organizational level.
Nature. Like any other type of building construction or design, a builder or a designer should always consult with nature. Having simple pocket gardens or having inside plants is already a good way to provide fresh air and cool down a home’s temperature. Though it may be a simple step most homeowners do neglect the importance of incorporating nature into their homes.
When it comes to major eco-friendly remodeling of a home, as mentioned in energy efficiency, solar tubes can be a great way to provide natural lighting to hard-to-reach areas such as basements or kitchens. One can also provide natural ventilation and circulation of air by using the concept of “passive cooling”. If you can afford to have your lawns changed into grass instead of concrete or have a fountain or a small pool then this can help in providing additional cooling systems at home this can reduce surface heat retention during the hot season.

Disaster Relief Program
Almost 50% Of Businesses Affected By A Natural Disaster Close Temporarily, The Ones That Don’t Almost Always Have An Emergency Preparedness And Response Plan In Place.
According to insurance adjusters the greatest cause of damage after a disaster is the loss of the structural integrity of your roof. This is when you are completely exposed to the elements. You need to get your building watertight and functional as soon as possible. Plus your temporary roof system must be able to hold up for the entirety of the insurance claim process.
Rocky Mountain Roofing and Restoration has developed a Response Plan that eliminates the 3 main roofing problems people face when disaster strikes.
Here are the three major roofing problems companies and institutions run into after a disaster that need to be covered in their Emergency Preparedness and Response plan:
1) Slow Response Time: Most companies have a local roofer that they work with, but in the event of a disaster they tend to be short on manpower and equipment. They also tend to be overwhelmed by the amount of work. We have developed a program that solves this problem for you.
2) Loss of Functionality: Two commons solutions following a disaster are to nail down a tarp, which is not water tight and will not protect your property. The other is to shrink wrap your building, although it is water tight it’s a poor solution, because it effectively stops all your roof top functions: Plumbing soil stacks, Rooftop HVAC units, and Heat Stacks. Our program has a watertight solution and your building keeps its functionality.
3) Durability: Even though it’s a temporary roof system you need it to hold up for the entirety of the insurance claim process which can take up to a year. We provide a one year warranty on our temporary roof systems.
When disaster strikes and damages your roof, time is critical. Our program is designed to provide you Priority Response by having professionally trained crews, specialized equipment, and materials waiting outside the danger zone ready to act immediately. Our crews will inspect your current roof and assess any damages and perform an emergency “Dry-In. “ This is a watertight roof system that will allow your building to keep it functionality. Best of all there is no cost to become a member of our program.

Roof Certifications
Roof Certifications In Denver, Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, Front Range and Ft. Collins, Colorado
What is a Roof Certification?
A Roof Certification is a formal certificate issued after a roof inspection has been performed on a property following the inspection protocols and has determined that the roof has met the Roof Certification criteria subject to its terms and conditions.
What does it cost for a Roof Certification?
A Roof Certification requires an inspection. This written inspection report with color photographs is typically $175, can be more for larger homes or commercial buildings. If the roof meets the Roof Certification criteria then it is a total of $250 for a 2 year period, again more for larger properties. If the roof has deficiencies, it will be documented in the written Inspection Report with color photographs detailing those deficiencies. If the member is hired to make the repairs, a portion of the inspection fee is credited in the repair costs.
If the roof does not meet the criteria, can anyone make the repairs?
Yes, any roofing contractor can make the repairs. However, another inspection would be required to determine if all the mandated repairs were made to meet the Roof Certification criteria. This becomes costly because it sometimes takes several inspections to make sure that all the repairs are properly made.
What does a Roof Certification cover?
The standard Roof Certification covers repairing leaks from normal wear and tear or a leak missed by the inspector during the certification period.
What happens if a leak occurs during the Certification Period?
The certificate holder notifies Rocky Mountain Roofing and Restoration that a leak has occurred. A member in our production department performs a leak inspection to determine the proximate cause of the leak. If it is determined that the leak was caused by a normal wear and tear or an error on the part of the inspector, all necessary steps would be taken to stop the leak at no additional cost to the certificate holder. Disputes are handled on a case-by-case basis.
What about storm damage or third party damage?
The standard Roof Certification does not provide coverage for "acts of God" or third party damages.
Can any roofing contractor issue a Roof Certification?
Yes, but most won't because they want to charge to replace the roof. Rocky Mountain Roofing and Restoration, Inc. will come out and give you an honest inspection and let you know if the roof is certifiable.
